Selection Tools
Activity 2.8
In this post, we will dive more in depth about specific tools, known as Selection Tools.
The Selection Tools found on GIMP are as follows: Rectangle Select, Ellipse Select, Free Select, Foreground Select, Fuzzy Select, By Color Select, and Intelligent Scissors.
Let's take the Rectangle Select Tool as an example for this post. The Rectangle Select Tool allows the user to make a rectangular selection of whatever part of a photo they want.
First, go to the tools menu at the top, select Selection Tools. Then select Rectangle Select. After that, click and drag your mouse over the area you wish to select (as shown in the picture below).
Note: The squares and rectangles located around the inner edges of your selection allow you to modify it.
And Voila! There you have it. This is one way to use the Rectangle Select Tool!
My Reflection:
I like how GIMP provides users with a variety of selection tools so they can choose whichever tools suits the type of selection they want to make. For example, if a user wishes to select a circular area on a picture, the Rectangle Select Tool wouldn't do the job as efficiently as the Ellipse Select Tool.
