Magazine Covers

 Activity 2.5

When creating a magazine cover, there are many elements that make it up including font, colour, white space, and more. This post will mainly go over important things that make up an attractive magazine cover.

Here are some of the important elements that make up a magazine's cover page:

     Fonts:
  •      Keep fonts consistent and do not overuse different fonts. Use a maximum of three fonts on the cover page.
  •     If emphasis is needed in a specific sentence, phrase, or word, try using italics or bold instead of changing the entire font.

    Colours:
  •     Use a colour scheme.
  •     Try relating your colour scheme to your topic. For example, you are writing about global warming. Use a green and blue colour scheme to symbolize the Earth.
    Pictures:
  •     Simple pictures work well.
  •     Avoid blurry or pixelated pictures.
  •     Don't make your pictures boring.
    Masthead:
  • A company logo or masthead is an important element. The masthead should be the first thing a viewer reads.
  • It should be located at the top and clearly identify your magazine.

The next post will take an unexpected turn. We will start with photoshop!! A specific program, known as GIMP, will be used.

My Reflection:

Creating an effective magazine cover seems quite difficult due to the extensive and extreme competition between magazine creators. Fighting for readers' attention doesn't seem like an easy battle to win!
