 The Role of Light:

Daylight or Diffused Light - subject's appearance is determined by the direction, colour, quality, and quantity of light.

Night -  different exposures can create different shots at night. Buildings produce interesting lighting at night that are entirely different than during the day.

Top Lighting -  light is on top of subject. Can be used to create different moods in a scene.

Back Lighting -  sun is in front of photographer and photo's subject is between them. Creates a silhouette effect

Front Lighting -  sun to photographer's back and directly on photo's subject. Creates flattening effect.

Side Lighting - light source found to the side. Produces an interesting photo due to the shadow cast.

Ghoul or Bottom Lighting -  light comes from the bottom, creating harsh shadows

Existing Light -  the available light that occurs when taking a photo. It could original from a light on the ceiling. This type of light can be found in various indoor settings.

The Use of a Flash -  flash can be used outdoors and indoors. Using flash indoors when it's really dark can make a photo look more natural.

    Using Light Effectively

When playing around with lighting it is import to remember to try and find the best point of light. It is also helpful to determine what type of light you are working with.

My Reflection:

I think lighting is really important in photography, especially professional photography. It could make or break a picture!
